CSS, Why Do You Hate Three Column Layouts?

:note: Tiamat – “Lucy”

I have this very pretty, very awesome, very great new layout, and I cannot for the life of me make it work as a three-column WordPress layout! I don’t know what my problem is. I have looked at glish.com’s CSS stuff, I’ve looked at Jem’s tutorial, I’ve looked at other 3-column WP layouts, but to no avail. It’s really heartbreaking, actually. I just can’t figure out what its problem is. I’ve got all three of my columns hanging out, but they don’t want to float nicely next to one another.

Anybody wanna help me? :?

Tried something totally different. Seems to be working, even in IE. I think I shall run with it.

    I can make an attempt?

Awwh, thanks. I tried to imitate the way someone else did a 3-column WP layout, and I think they did it really, really oddly. Like, with a ton of edits to the core WP files and stuff. Just bizarre.

I ended up taking the second sidebar out of the sidebar.php file and putting it into its own file, and then just doing a PHP include statement to get it in there. And that seems to be working, for the moment. But thank you. :D I will probably ask you for advice in the future, so beware! Heh.

If I tell you that it’ll work if you switch to MT, will I get punches to the face?

  • Meggan says:

Um, possibly. I’m rather in love with WordPress after a horrible experience trying to install MT when I first got a domain. I got 95% of the way through the installation and then it threw up its proverbial hands and said, “I have no idea what you’re talking about. Database? What is this database you speak of? I connect to it? I don’t think so. I’m not connected to anything at the moment.” and WOULD NOT LET ME GO ANY FURTHER. It did not matter what I did, how many variables I changed, how many connection strings I tinkered with, it WOULD NOT INSTALL. I spent HOURS on it.

So then I saw this “WordPress” thing, and gave it a shot, and their 5-minute install turned into hours because I am an idiot, but it did install perfectly and I have had no problems since. I have also heard that MT is really awful at category-related things, and I think that WP might not be.

Basically, no punchings, but I’m really, really unlikely to switch. :D Thanks for the comment though, it’s lovely to see new faces!

Also, I think I got the layout to work. You should see it shortly. :good:

This layout is lots of fun, so I guess you don’t need to worry about switching. Also, from what I gather MT really IS horrible at category related goodness. I only use them to add to the humor of my entries, so it doesn’t bother me. But I know a lot of people it pissed off because it wouldn’t cooperate.
