The B52’s – “Song For A Future Generation”
I’d like to thank Shannon a whole whole lot, not just for commenting, but for putting me on her loved/admired list! I am SO EXCITED. :excite: I’ve always wanted to be on one of those lists. Hurray! I was trying to show this to Daniel a bit ago, and I went to Shannon’s site (which is new, BTW) to show him, and he was like, “Daydream believer? What’s that?”
Now, I understand the intricicies of domain-naming, and how sometimes they can be really obscure and strange and have the word “digital” in them for no apparent reason, but this is a SONG. A very well known song, at that.
What follows is the interchange that occured between Daniel and I after he asked what “daydream believer” meant.
Me: The SONG, Daniel, the SONG. The one song. The song, that’s like, “Cheer up sleepy Jean, oh what can it mean… to a -Daydream believer- and her- -hooooome-coming queeeeeeen” (imagine my mostly-on key but still kinda bad rendition of this song being sung here)
Daniel: *blink*blink* (blank stare)
Me: Don’t tell me you don’t know that song.
Daniel: (more blank staring)
Me: (more renditions of the song)
Daniel: Um, no, I can’t say I’ve ever heard it. Who does it?
Me: (freaking out) Like, ABBA or Elton John or somebody. Somebody silly. (Googles it.) THE MONKEES. The Monkees do that song. You have to know it.
Daniel: Um, no. Still don’t know what you’re talking about.
Me: But you… you know songs… you… YOU DON’T KNOW THIS SONG???
Daniel: Is this like you not knowing that Barry Bonds was black?*
*True story, I’m sorry to say. Daniel said he thought it was funny, but I think he secretly thought I was dumb for it. I didn’t know. I just imagined Barry Bonds looking something like Mark McGuire. Baseball totally isn’t my thing.
So ANYWAY, the interchange ended with me recommending that he download it or something (even though I know he won’t) just to see what it sounds like, because I swear to god he knows it. How could you not know that song?
