Opportunity

:note: Type O Negative – “In Praise Of Bacchus”

I just got an offer to do another internship. It’s paid ($10-12 an hour, about 3-5 more than what I’m making now at work); I’d be doing HTML, Flash, and probably some PHP; and there is a distinct possibility that they’d be willing to hire the intern on as full-time once they graduate.

I’d like to do it, I really would. But I’ve already got five classes, a part-time job, and my current internship. And homework. And a bit of a life. How in the world would I fit that in?

I emailed the dept. director back and asked how many hours a week they’re looking for, and where the actual job site is. If they’re looking for any more than 10, or if it’s not in the immediate downtown Portland area, I might say no. I dunno. It’s a fantastic opportunity, it really is. I would HATE to turn it down. But… I just don’t know if I can do it. And we all know how much I suck at Flash.

What would you do if you were in my position?

I turned it down. I hate myself for it, but I really don’t think I could have done it. It would have been wayyy too much. The dept. director said he thinks I made a good decision.

  • I think first I’d find out if there were enough hours offered at this job to replace, not supplement, your current job. This one sounds like a plum.

Or do you have a full-time job now? If that’s the case, I’d hope like hell for the 10 hours or less at the internship.

  • Yeah you dont want to spread yourself to thin, stress sucks. It ages you.
