A Few Things About Today

:note: nothing

Today I saw a car on the way home from school. It was a silver Toyota Starlet (much crappier than the one pictured) with a 3 foot long dent on the passenger side. It also had two pieces of white bread sitting askew on the roof of the car. :tensed: Not sure what that’s all about.

I also saw a sticker (presumably for a band) that said “Wombstretcher” on it. And I thought to myself, what an oddly apt term for a baby.

I kept almost falling asleep in class this afternoon, so um, I’m going to go take a nap. I feel like the dead.

Side note: What is with people using Lucida Sans as the body text for their websites recently? Maybe it looks good on their computers, but OMG does it look awful on mine. I have it installed, but maybe I have too high of a resolution for it or something… it looks like ass. It’s only really readable at about 16pt, which is ridiculously large. I’ve had to employ my trusty Web Developer Toolbar on multiple occasions to edit someone’s stylesheet and save a custom one for myself just so I could continue to read their website. Verdana, people, Verdana! It was made for the screen! Embrace Verdana!

Oh! I just remembered! Today I learned that Lewis Carroll (of Alice In Wonderland fame) was a pedophile! He was obsessed with a young girl named Alice and took lots of photos of her and other young girls, clothed and unclothed, and when he died, he asked that all his negatives be destroyed. Yeah. Lewis Carroll.

Bread on a roof? And Wombstretcher? Wow, and I thought that “crotch dropping” was bad.

Regarding Lucida Sans – may I ask what monitor size/resolution you have? I try to pick decent fonts and sizing, as I myself use a 19″ LCD monitor with a 1280 x 1024 resolution. Would you mind sending me a screenshot?

Sure, I didn’t want to single you out (there’s actually a few other people’s sites I’ve noticed it on) but, um, it’s sort of unreadable. I’ll email you a screenshot in a minute!

But I like my Arial too… *makes pouty face*

I didn’t know that you could save custom stylesheets to use for websites with the Web Developer plugin. I’ve been using it just for temporary edits and whatnot. Will you enlighten me on how I can do that?

I can endorse Arial. It works for me. It’s just this weird Lucida issue that I have a problem with. I’m still not sure why it’s going wrong.

And the custom stylesheet thing is a little iffy. I’m not quite sure if I know how to work it yet, but if you open the WebDev toolbar and click on the CSS tab, there should be an option that says “Edit CSS.” The css file will open up in a sidebar on the left. Fix whatever you want to fix (I just looked for p tags or td tags and edited the corresponding font choice) and then hit the little icon that says “Save.”

Then to actually use it, I think you may have to “load” it (should be the open folder icon) and it should stick. I’ve found that a lot of times, I can edit the info but if I don’t save and load, as soon as I close the sidebar, it reverts back to its original state. I think I just don’t know how to use it. But it did work for me – I saved the stylesheet and then you can just “load” it when you go to that page, and voila – things are readable.

I think it’s one of those try at your own risk sort of things, but it does help in a pinch.

I’ve never even heard of Lucida Sans being used on websites. Hell, I don’t even know what it looks like! I just stick to arial or verdana most of the time.
