Presidential Debates, or Lack Thereof

I don’t have TV.

I don’t really miss it at all, because I was never a huge TV fan to begin with. However, I do miss it for instances like watching the presidential debates because I like to be aware of my current situation. From what I’ve heard and read about what went on, Kerry seems to be totally kicking Bush’s ass. Not that this was unexpected, because I strongly doubt Bush’s ability to calmly and reasonably answer questions (which is what debates are all about), but I still think it’s cool. I read somewhere (on some weblog, probably) about how Bush treats the debates. The person said that Bush has never really had to explain himself before, because his press conferences and meetings and things are just FILLED with people who love him and agree with him. All of the people he talks to are handpicked in order to make sure there’s no conflict. However, with debates, Bush is forced to speak openly with/to the American public, and he can’t handle it. He had a look and an attitude like, “Why do I have to do this? This is irrelevant. I don’t have to explain myself or what I’m doing. Really.” Now, I didn’t see any of the debates, so I can’t confirm this, but it makes so much sense to me. Now that Bush is being forced to speak to the American public about what he’s done to our country in the past four years, he gets uncomfortable because there’s something wrong.

I saw this in the comments at blurbomat: “And then I get depressed thinking about what it says [about] my fellow Americans that there are so many of us that can listen to this inarticulate, warmongering puppet and think, ‘That George — he’s our guy!'”

I had a discussion a few months ago with my friend, whom we’ll call X, about the presidential candidates. This was when Westley Clark was still in the running, so yes, it was a while ago. X said that he intended to vote for Bush. I was appalled, because X is most definitely NOT the type that would vote for Bush, so I asked him why. He said that he didn’t feel it was appropriate to change presidents in the midst of a raging war, and therefore he was going to stick with Bush because Bush would get the job done.

*blink*

*blink* *blink*

Um… No. In my opinion, we NEED to get rid of Bush to get out of this war. Bush obviously has no qualms about going to war preemptively, so why would he feel compelled to end it? X was going with the whole “don’t change horses in the middle of the stream” analogy, but what I think he doesn’t realize is that we’ve fallen off the first horse and WE’RE DROWNING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREAM! It’s more than okay to change horses if yours is fucking floundering. The other horse will save you! GO FOR THE OTHER HORSE!
