PB&H Sammich Experiment

:note: nothing

On occasion I will pack a peanut butter and honey sandwich for lunch, and inevitably, the honey leaks out into my Tupperware container and gets my sandwich all messy.

Today I tried an experiment. I ordered fresh bread from a local italian bakery that offers fresh bread delivery services.

Normally, I put peanut butter on one piece of bread, put the honey on the same piece, and put the plain bread slice on top, pressing the edges so (I’m hoping, anyway) the honey gets “sealed” in. It’s a decent method, but the honey leaks through the bread so my sandwich kind of crystallizes, and there’s always some leaked honey in the Tupperware container. I figured I could improve on this method.

This morning, I put peanut butter on both pieces of bread, applied some honey on one, and used the other peanut-buttery bread slice on top of the honey. I figure, heck, there’s no way this honey is leaking through the bread.

I was right, but judging from my Tupperware container at the moment, the peanut butter layers provided a neat path for the honey to squish directly out the edges, leaving near-to-none in the center of the sandwich. It was far, far worse than the previous incarnation.

Is there a secret to the PB&H sandwich that I just don’t know? A secret that will leave my bread fluffy and my Tupperware container free of leaked honey? I rarely have these problems with jam.

I’ve never had a PB&H sandwich, and it sounds rather weird to me… ^^
I only eat PB&J sandwiches, though I also don’t take those out in tupperware containers. I’ve always disliked bringing pre-made sandwiches somewhere, before they always taste kinda crappy after half a day in a tupperware container…

Here’s an idea: slather all the peanut butter you want on a slice of bread, then take a reasonable amount of honey and place it in a small container, seal that up (it’s ok if the honey spills inside its own container). Wait till lunch time, combine neatly, enjoy.

    Mmmm…crystallised sandwich :D

I’ve never had a PB&H so I unfortunately have no tips for you. I might have to test out this curious combination, though. I’ve been getting sick of the usual old PB&J.

I’m not sure if this is practical, but would it be possible to put a little bit of honey in a travel-size bottle and put it on the bread when you’re ready to eat it. My mom works in an office and does stuff like that all the time.

Peanut butter makes me barf. Repeatedly. Honey, on the other hand, is actual barf. Bee barf. Yet I eat that.

I was going to post a helpful comment, actually but Paul up there ruined that for me.

I’ve never had a peanut butter and honey sandwich. Shockingly.Isn’t it too sweet? Or are you person who is big into sweet things? I feel like all I would want is the peanut butter. In any case, that sounds like a good sealing technique. Peanut butter is like glue, only delicious.

I’ve always had the most luck with the peanut butter on both sides with jelly in the middle method, but I also wrap my sandwiches in wax paper. Maybe that keeps the jelly in check.

The only reason I have no advice for you, is because I actually *like* the crystallized bread. Mmm hmm.

I’ve never had a PB and H sandwich and I can’t ever picture myself having one because I think honey is yucky. But I like how you described it!

Something random in your last entry… I too hate when people spell ridiculous with an “e”. Definitely on my list of top ten spelling/grammar pet peeves!

I really have no helpful hints to offer, but I felt compelled to say: “Yum.”

Megg!! I have to say I love the crystallized bread so I put PB on one side and honey on the other. But for those who don’t enjoy a slightly crunchy sandwich have you tried really mixing the pb and honey on the same side so you still have the flavor but there isn’t as much honey to get to the bread. just an idea. love you!
