Hurricane Katrina

:note: TV On The Radio – “Dreams”

I sometimes feel pretty lucky that I don’t have TV, not only because I think it watching it is a bad habit, but because I consequently don’t get inundated with the constant stream of negativity in the media. However, there are times like this when I sort of wish I had TV so I could keep up with what’s going on around me.

I don’t personally know anyone who has been affected by the hurricane, but I would like to help anyway. I’ve stumbled across a site that is offering up their address so you can send material items to help out the hurricane victims. They will then team up with the Salvation Army to distribute the items to people in need. I’ve been looking for something like this, because ideally I’d like to send money, but I don’t feel that the amount I’d be able to send would do any good. I have a ton of clothes in fairly good condition that don’t fit or I don’t like, and this is a perfect solution to getting rid of them – I can help out people in unfortunate situations while getting rid of stuff I don’t need.

The site is CoffeeCup Software. I’ve heard of their software before (they have HTML editors and stuff), and I like that a web-related company is helping out.

I’ve got two boxes of stuff (clothes, socks, bras, soap) that I’m going to send off as soon as I can make it to the Post Office. I hope it’ll help.

It’s amazing how the ones that seem least likely (a software company, for example) are the ones that do such a lot to help. :)
