Wesley Leif
Wesley Leif was born March 25, 2010 at 11:57am. He weighed 6lbs 14oz and was 19″ long. He’s super cute! (And blonde!)
I will post the rest of the birth story as soon as I can. The short story is that I dilated to a 5 and was doing pretty well, but the baby hadn’t moved down into my pelvis and was still kind of crooked, and even with a catheter I hadn’t produced any urine in several hours so the doctors made the decision that I needed a c-section.
On the whole, I am feeling pretty good. Very tired, kind of sore, and I still look about 6mos pregnant. Wesley eats all! the! time! and gets really frustrated if he’s making hunger cues and doesn’t get fed right away. (He is obviously his mother’s child.) Daniel is a huge help and makes sure I’m taking my pain meds and drinking water and helps latch Wesley on. (Remind me to discuss his hiliariously bizarre breastfeeding habits.)
There are more pictures on Facebook if you’re interested, and we’re settling into life at home. We have a follow-up appointment with a lactation consultant today to weigh the baby to make sure he’s taking in enough food (he didn’t have a dirty diaper for about a day and the hospital people were concerned) and then we’re supposed to make a pediatrician appointment for tomorrow.
Overall, we’re doing really well and appreciate all your well-wishes and good thoughts. Wesley is adorable and I can’t wait for you to get to know him.

I am not a baby person, and I generally think they’re all ugly until they hit about 18 months, but Wesley is a total exception to that rule. Possibly the cutest newborn I’ve ever seen!

I suspected c-sec as there was a pic of Daniel on facebook in scrubs (or did I imagine that?) – was worried something had gone wrong for a while there.. eek. I worry too much, as clearly you’re doing fab – you look all blissed out and at one with your new little baby (who is, I have to say, VERY CUTE!)
The feeding thing.. yeah, that’s pretty much constant for the next 6 weeks. Sorry :p
